Frequently Asked Questions

Is Geranabol an anabolic steroid?

No. The name sounds like one, but the formulation contains no hormonal active. It’s a stimulant cocktail with DMAA, ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin. Anyone expecting muscle-building in the classic sense will be disappointed — the effect is purely energetic and thermogenic.

When does the effect kick in and how long does it last?

DMAA and caffeine are noticeable within 20 to 40 minutes. The peak sits between one and two hours post dose, effect fades over the following four to six hours. DMAA’s blood half-life is about 6 hours — which is why the advice is no capsules after early afternoon if you plan to sleep that night.

Can Geranabol trigger a positive drug test?

Yes, and on two counts. DMAA and ephedrine both sit on the WADA in-competition list, category S6. A urine screen picks both up reliably. Metabolites can stay detectable for several days after use — one capsule three days before a competition is enough to produce a positive result.

What happens combined with beta-blockers or MAO inhibitors?

Both are potentially dangerous combinations. Beta-blockers partly cancel the cardiovascular effects of DMAA, but the interactions are unpredictable. MAO inhibitors (including herbal ones, e.g. high-dose rauwolfia products) can push you into a hypertensive crisis. Anyone on those drugs or in psychiatric treatment should keep well clear of any stimulant.

Is there a "safe" DMAA dose?

From what toxicological reviews of individual case reports show, severe events (rhabdomyolysis, heart attack, intracerebral haemorrhage) have occurred even at doses inside the declared range of individual products. No safe dose has been established by prospective trials. Anyone chasing the kick can get most of it — with less risk — from high-dose caffeine plus tyrosine plus L-theanine, without stepping into the DMAA grey zone.

Geranabol: what’s actually in this DMAA fat burner, and why Western regulators treat it as illegal

The name is a deliberate bait-and-switch. “Geranabol” sounds like a classic anabolic steroid — that’s the marketing pitch. Skim the label copy in the Eastern-European online shops that stock it and you could believe you’re looking at a 19-nortestosterone derivative in capsule form. You’re not. What’s actually inside is a stimulant cocktail with DMAA at the centre — and a regulatory status that lands somewhere between “illegal food supplement” and “banned pharmaceutical” in every Western market.

A quick Google search for “Geranabol review” surfaces the usual mix: euphoric write-ups from bodybuilding boards on one side, Trustpilot warnings shouting “Geranabol DONT BUY IT! FAKE!” on the other. Classic pattern for a grey-market product whose real contents rarely match the label.

What’s actually in a capsule

Geranabol is manufactured by Magnus Pharmaceuticals, sold in blisters or bottles of 90 capsules. Per the manufacturer’s own label, each capsule contains a mix of four stimulant components:

  • Caffeine — around 250 mg per capsule, well above a strong coffee’s dose
  • Geranium extract (declared as the “natural” DMAA source)
  • Ephedra herb, providing roughly 50 mg of ephedrine
  • Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) at an unspecified amount

The active driver is DMAA (1,3-dimethylamylamine), also known as methylhexanamine or under the trade name Geranamine. Originally patented in the 1940s by Eli Lilly as a nasal decongestant, DMAA reappeared in pre-workout formulations in the 2000s once the patent had lapsed. The marketing story that DMAA is a natural component of geranium oil has been debunked by independent chromatography — DMAA is a synthetic compound.

The name “Geranabol” plays additionally with a naming confusion: Wyeth developed a steroid called norboletone in the 1960s, internally codenamed “Genabol”. It was never marketed and has no pharmacological relationship to the modern Geranabol. The phonetic overlap probably isn’t accidental.

What the cocktail does to the body

All four ingredients act on the sympathetic nervous system, though through different routes. Together they produce what experienced users describe as “wired to the fingertips”.

Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors — the ones that send a “sleep signal” at rest. Result: more alertness, more catecholamine release, mild bronchodilation. Ephedrine, extracted from ephedra, activates the adrenergic α- and β-receptors directly — heart rate and blood pressure climb, fat burning gets kicked, appetite drops. Aspirin blocks prostaglandin synthesis and used to be added to classic ECA stacks to prolong the ephedrine effect.

DMAA itself is sympathomimetic: it releases noradrenaline and inhibits its reuptake. The effect is a pronounced boost in attention, heart rate and blood pressure, often with a euphoric background in the first 60 to 90 minutes. A user on a US-based forum reported that a single capsule left him “seriously wired” — with this ingredient list that’s not surprising, it’s the logical consequence.

What the marketing rarely spells out: the DMAA-plus-ephedrine-plus-high-dose-caffeine combination multiplies the cardiovascular load. Ingredients that would be tolerable individually become a genuine cardiovascular stressor stacked together like this.

Dosing — or what the label claims

Manufacturer instruction: one capsule per day, two if needed. In practice:

Parameter Typical handling Note
Starting dose 1 capsule 30–45 min pre-training
Ramp-up Max 2 capsules/day Only in stimulant-tolerant users
Late dosing Not after 3 PM Otherwise sleep loss into the night
Cycle length 4–8 weeks Followed by at least an equal break

The real problem: the actual DMAA amount per capsule is not declared. One forum user reported waking up “flat” after a single tablet — pointing at either an underdosed batch or a straight-up counterfeit. Another Trustpilot reviewer complained his capsules looked visually different from the known originals. On a substance already in a legal grey zone, that piles uncertainty onto uncertainty.

What can go wrong, and where the hard risks sit

Racing heart, high blood pressure, jitteriness, insomnia — those are the most-reported side effects in user reports. Expected in a stimulant-heavy product. Not a bug, a feature. They turn dangerous mostly when stacked with other loads: hard cardio, summer temperatures, dehydration, other stimulant supplements like yohimbine or ordinary pre-workouts.

DMAA has its own safety file, sitting with the FDA. After reports of heart attacks, intracerebral haemorrhages and several deaths under DMAA-containing supplements, the FDA issued warning letters in the 2010s and moved to pull the products from the US market. EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) classified DMAA as unsafe; approval as a food-supplement ingredient failed comprehensively.

An overlooked factor: aspirin inside a fat-burner mix is a bad idea for anyone with a sensitive GI tract or a bleeding tendency. If you know NSAID damage in your stomach or you’re on a blood thinner, walk around this product.

Legal framework: clearly banned

DMAA is not an approved dietary-supplement ingredient in the US, the EU or the UK. The FDA classifies DMAA-containing products as adulterated dietary supplements. The UK Home Office moved DMAA into its list of controlled substances after fatalities. Sale via mainstream retailers happens mostly under the pretext of “sports nutrition” — the actual regulatory category is either an illegal food or an unlicensed medicine.

In organised sport DMAA has been on the WADA Prohibited List since 2011, category S6 (Stimulants), banned in competition. The Jamaican team incident involving Usain Bolt’s teammates in 2009 — where possible DMAA contamination of a supplement led to a stripped medal — shows how quickly a positive test can happen when an athlete takes a declared dietary supplement without independent analysis.

Ephedrine, the second load-bearing stimulant, is prescription-only in most Western countries and is on the WADA in-competition list. For a tested athlete Geranabol is disqualification-worthy on two independent counts.

Legal alternatives and a reality check

Geranabol moves through bodybuilding specialty shops and grey-market imports from Eastern Europe. Prices sit typically at 30–50 euros per 90-count pack. The fake rate — going by user reports and Trustpilot reviews — is high; Magnus Pharmaceuticals’ original gets copied regularly, contents unknown.

What we list: Geranabol 90 tab Fat Burner from Magnus Pharmaceuticals — the original batch that matches the product most discussed on forums. Other fat-burner variants from the Magnus range or alternative pack sizes can be ordered on request. The regulatory status of DMAA-containing products should stay in view when handling this category.

For anyone looking for a legal fat-loss route: caffeine-based fat burners without DMAA are legally sold everywhere in the West. Green-tea extract (EGCG), L-carnitine, cayenne extract and plain caffeine deliver measurable, if more modest, effects — without the cardiovascular load that DMAA and ephedrine bring. If a stim pre-workout still ends up on the list, check the ingredient panel and be honest with yourself about your heart health.
