Frequently Asked Questions

Why not just take oral steroids and skip the needles?

Oral anabolics have to be chemically modified (17α-alkylation) to survive first-pass liver metabolism. That modification is the same thing that makes them liver-toxic. Injectables bypass the liver, allowing the same anabolic effect with a fraction of the hepatotoxicity. That’s the trade every experienced user has already made.

Which compound should I start with?

Testosterone enanthate or cypionate. Weekly injection, well-understood dose-response, the cleanest side-effect map among anabolics. Starting with trenbolone, deca or a stack of unknowns is how first cycles turn into cardiology visits. Base your first cycle on 250–500 mg/week testosterone; the rest of the toolkit stays on the shelf.

How do I decide between the different esters of the same compound?

Injection frequency and how fast you want to be able to course-correct. Short esters (propionate, acetate) let you adjust the dose within days but demand every-other-day shots. Long esters (enanthate, cypionate, decanoate) run smoothly at once or twice weekly but take 4–6 weeks to reach steady state and just as long to wash out. Match ester to cycle length and your tolerance for injection frequency.

Do I need HCG on an injectable cycle?

Not mandatory, but useful. HCG (500–1000 IU every three days in the last 2–3 weeks of the cycle) keeps the testes signalling active while the pituitary is asleep under exogenous testosterone. Makes the PCT restart smoother. Not a replacement for the SERM in PCT itself.

When is trenbolone worth it?

When the cycle goal is aggressive recomposition or advanced-user hardening at low body fat, and the user has already run at least a few clean testosterone-only cycles to have a baseline for their own tolerance. Not for a first, second or third cycle. Not without cabergoline on hand for progesterone-driven side effects.

Injectable steroids: the compound families, why they still dominate the catalogue and how to think about dosing schedules

Injectable steroids remain the workhorse of any serious anabolic cycle. The reason isn’t tradition or preference — it’s pharmacokinetics. Attaching a fatty-acid ester to a steroid molecule solves two problems at once: the ester makes the molecule lipophilic enough to sit in an oily depot inside the muscle, and it converts the compound into a slow-release format that spares the liver from first-pass metabolism. Every other route of administration — oral tablets, transdermal gels, buccal patches — is either liver-toxic (17α-alkylated orals) or clinically weaker for the doses lifters use.

What follows is a walk through the main compound families in this section, with the practical differences that decide which one fits a given cycle goal.

Testosterone: the base of every cycle

The category is big enough for its own sub-hub — see the Testosterone page for details on the individual esters (propionate, phenylpropionate, enanthate, cypionate, undecanoate) and the Sustanon-style blends. What matters here at the category level:

Every proper injectable cycle either is a testosterone cycle or has testosterone as its base compound. The reason: any anabolic that suppresses the HPG axis drops endogenous testosterone toward zero. Running a suppressive compound without exogenous testosterone means running low-T for the whole cycle length, with the well-known consequences: killed libido, fatigue, mood flat, poor recovery. Testosterone at a modest dose (250–500 mg/week for most schedules) provides the baseline the other compounds add onto.

Nandrolone family (Deca, NPP)

Nandrolone decanoate (Deca-Durabolin) and nandrolone phenylpropionate (NPP) are the same base compound at different ester speeds. Progestogenic activity is the distinguishing feature: nandrolone binds the progesterone receptor at physiologically relevant levels, which is why “deca-dick” (progesterone-driven libido and erectile issues) is a real cycle complaint that no aromatase inhibitor fixes. The answer here is cabergoline, sometimes with vitamin B6 at high dose — not tamoxifen or anastrozole.

Positive side of the same coin: gentle water retention that lubricates joints, real reported relief in chronic joint complaints, and — at moderate doses — an anabolic-to-androgenic ratio that supports muscle without pushing hair loss and skin issues as hard as trenbolone.

Boldenone (Equipoise)

A 1-double-bond variant of testosterone, historically a veterinary compound. Modest anabolic strength but long-recognised for two effects that keep it in bodybuilding rotation: appetite stimulation (useful during bulks) and gradual, low-water lean-mass gain over long cycles (14–16 weeks isn’t unusual). The 14-day half-life of boldenone undecylenate means it takes 4–6 weeks to reach effective serum levels — anyone running a short 8-week cycle with boldenone as the star compound usually feels underwhelmed.

Trenbolone (acetate, enanthate, hexahydrobenzylcarbonate)

The strongest anabolic in common circulation, and the most polarising compound in the section. Five times the androgen-receptor binding affinity of testosterone, non-aromatising, non-progestogenic through the classic path — but heavily progestogenic through a separate mechanism that produces “tren gyno” (progesterone- and prolactin-driven, not estradiol-driven). Aromatase inhibitors don’t fix that; cabergoline does.

Trenbolone’s side-effect profile pulls no punches: night sweats, insomnia, “tren cough” (a coughing reflex right after injection, harmless but startling), aggressive lipid changes, and a documented cardiac stress signature that separates it from testosterone at equivalent doses. The three esters cover different release speeds: acetate (2–3 day half-life, needs frequent injection), enanthate (5–7 day), hexahydrobenzylcarbonate/parabolan (12–14 day).

Drostanolone (Masteron)

A DHT-derivative that doesn’t aromatise. Where it earned its reputation: cutting phases. Anti-estrogenic effect at the receptor level, mild diuretic feel, no water retention. What it doesn’t do well: build mass on its own. Nobody runs Masteron as a bulk-cycle main compound. What it does well: sharpen an already-lean physique for a photo shoot or a stage day, and — at modest doses — mildly counteract the estrogen from a testosterone base without needing an aromatase inhibitor.

Two esters: propionate (fast, 2-day half-life, frequent injections) and enanthate (5-day half-life, twice weekly). Both share the same base compound and the same effect profile.

Injectable Winstrol and Primobolan

Both are DHT-derivatives, both prized for lean-mass building without estrogen side effects. Injectable Winstrol (stanozolol) shares the strong lipid impact of the oral version — HDL crashes hard. Primobolan (methenolone enanthate) is the gentler cousin: mild anabolic, minimal side effects, historically prized for its cleanness and correspondingly targeted by counterfeiters. Real Primobolan is one of the hardest steroids to source clean on the grey market.

The dose-frequency question

The half-life of the ester decides how often to inject. Short esters (propionate, acetate, phenylpropionate) demand every-other-day shots for stable levels. Long esters (enanthate, cypionate, decanoate, undecanoate) accept once- or twice-weekly. Multi-ester blends (Sustanon, Testo Mix 400) are marketed as once-weekly but actually need every 3–4 day injections for a flat serum curve — running Sustanon weekly produces a hormone roller-coaster, not a plateau.

Concentration matters for tolerability. 100 mg/ml is comfortable for most people; 200 mg/ml and above needs more benzyl alcohol or guaiacol, which drives up post-injection pain (PIP). Beginners often do better on a 100 mg/ml testosterone product even at the cost of drawing larger volumes.

PCT: the exit strategy

Every injectable cycle in this category suppresses the HPG axis. The exit strategy — Post-Cycle Therapy — starts when the longest ester in the cycle has washed out. For propionate: 3–4 days after the last shot. For enanthate: 14–18 days. For decanoate: 3 weeks. Standard PCT: SERM (tamoxifen 20 mg daily or clomiphene 25 mg daily) across 4–6 weeks, sometimes preceded by HCG in the last cycle weeks to keep the testes primed for the restart.

Bloods, not vibes

The one non-negotiable for any injectable cycle: bloodwork before, during and after. Full blood count (hematocrit crossing 52% is the phlebotomy line), liver panel, lipid profile, sensitive estradiol, PSA over 30, blood pressure logged weekly. Cycles run “by feel” without lab data are the ones that show up in cardiologist waiting rooms years later.

Legal picture

Testosterone and all its derivatives are Schedule III controlled substances under US federal law and Class C drugs in the UK. Every other injectable in this category is prescription-only across the EU. Purchase without a prescription is illegal in each of those jurisdictions; personal-use possession sits at the misdemeanour level in most cases, distribution at the felony level.

In organised sport, every anabolic in the section sits on the WADA Prohibited List category S1.1 (Anabolic Agents), banned at all times. Testing methodology (LC-MS/MS with IRMS backup) reliably picks up all of the esters listed above.
